How To Discover Your Business Identity

Discovering your business identity is an absolutely huge part of starting up. It’s all well and good knowing what your business does, but developing a business identity takes it that step further and makes you a better business overall. Here’s how you can discover your business identity:

Come Up With A List of Values

Start off by coming up with a list of values that your business has. This will help you to come up with the type of identity you should have. Do you love the environment, and want to keep it safe? Do you value the happiness of the customer? Do you value the lives of animals? There are all kinds of values a business can have, and all of these will make a huge difference to what you do with your business identity. Make a list of the 3 most important values to you and see what you can do with them.

Brainstorm

Brainstorm your ideas once you have your values all noted down. Jot down any rough ideas you have and expand where possible. Don’t worry too much about the outcome. This kind of work can really help you when you’re trying to come up with the right feel for your business.

Do Your Research

Doing lots of research is absolutely essential to how well your business does. You want to research similar businesses to yours, as well as businesses that are totally different. You can take lessons from everybody. What do other companies do with their business identity? How do they differentiate themselves, and what techniques do they use? Do as much research as you can to get the right kind of sound, feel, and look for yours.

Look At Your Competition

As mentioned before, you do want to take a look at your competition. It’s important you don’t go out to copy them, as you must be original and differentiate your business to succeed. That being said, you still want to ask yourself what you could possibly do better than your competition. Make a note of what everybody is doing and come up with an identity you feel confident will rival others. Always ask yourself what will make a person go for your business rather than your competition.

Consider The Bigger Picture

Consider the bigger picture at once and not just smaller elements. Everything needs to fit together smoothly, so you need to be sure this will happen before you make big business decisions. Don’t just consider your logo, for example. Consider how your logo suits your voice, site, colors, and everything else going on. Look at your business as a whole. Companies such as deBretton like to look at the bigger picture when coming up with design elements.

Don’t Neglect Your Client

At the end of the day, your client is the most important thing to you. Getting feedback and making sure you aim everything at them is a must.

Find The Special Elements

Finding the special elements of your business and the things you offer will take you very far. Don’t forget to do this!
